Legislation filed by Senator Moore recently advanced from the Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security.  The bill, which would establish basic protections for small businesses that are targeted by exploitative lawsuits under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), received unanimous support from Committee members and has moved through to the next step in the legislative process.
 

Senator Moore recently attended the Shrewsbury School Committee meeting to present Jared Sarnie with the $500 scholarship named in memory of longtime Millbury-Sutton Chronicle columnist Tom Reilly who passed away earlier this year.  Senator Moore sponsored the scholarship opportunity for graduating high school seniors who reside in the Second Worcester District.   

Senator Moore welcomed Liam Monahan of Shrewsbury to the State House for the beginning of the 2017 summer internship program.  Liam is interning within Senator Moore’s State House Office several days each week throughout the summer.

Senator Moore and Representative Kate D. Campanale (R-Leicester) recently joined representatives from The Arc, The Central Mass Providers, the South Valley Citizens Advisory Board and local officials to congratulate community members who have dedicated their lives to serving and advocating for persons with disabilities.  Among the award recipients were David and Marjorie Cohen of Worcester who have served the special needs community for more than two decades.

With summer around the corner, and with the promise of warmer temperatures, Senator Moore encourages area residents to take advantage of free tours of the Massachusetts State House.  Tours are offered by the Secretary of the Commonwealth’s Office and are led by knowledgeable guides. 

Senator Moore and Representative Hannah E. Kane (R-Shrewsbury) announced that the Town of Shrewsbury received a $22K grant through the Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) grant program.  The MVP program, which is coordinated through the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs, seeks to help communities adapt to climate change.

Senator Moore recently sponsored an ice cream social at the Northbridge Senior Center.   Despite the chilly temperatures and rainy weather, many local seniors stopped by to enjoy ice cream and conversation at the free annual event. 

The Joint Committee on Higher Education unanimously voted to advance legislation filed by Senator Moore to help address the issue of college campus sexual violence.  The bill is a re-filed version of Moore-sponsored legislation that passed the Senate last year but ultimately was not considered by the House of Representatives before the end of the legislative session.  

With the recent departure of Senator James E. Timilty (D-Walpole) from the State Senate, Senator Michael Moore has been elevated from his role as Senate Vice-Chair to serve as Acting Senate Chair of the Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security.  

BOSTON – On Tuesday May 2nd, Representative Paul K. Frost (R-Auburn) testified before the Joint Committee on Municipalities and Regional Government which Senator Michael O. Moore (D-Millbury) serves as the Senate Chairman, on House Bill 3214, An act relative to methadone clinic zoning.

Senator Moore has been appointed by Senate President Stanley C. Rosenberg (D-Amherst) to serve as Chair of the newly-established Senate Special Committee on Cyber Security Readiness.   

Senator Moore will participate in the 3rd Annual Armed Forces Day event, honoring all service men and women, active or retired, will take place at SAC Park, 438 Lake Street, Shrewsbury, on Saturday, May 20, 2017 from 9AM -10:30 AM.  The event, coordinated by Representative Hannah E. Kane (R-Shrewsbury), is free and open to all active and retired military personnel and members of the public who would like to take part in honoring those who have served.

For the third straight year, Senator Moore announced grant funding available through the Attorney General’s Office that would provide an estimated 150 summer jobs to benefit underserved youth across the Commonwealth.

Senator Moore recently signed onto a letter to the Chairs of the Joint Committee on Ways and Means requesting that minimum per-pupil increases within the Fiscal Year 2018 state budget hold steady at $55 for the second straight year.  A total of 63 other legislators joined Senator Moore in adding their names to the submitted letter.
