Senator takes helm of Public Safety, Senate Bonding Committees

BOSTON – Armed with the experience of serving for twenty-two years as a former law enforcement officer, Senator Michael O. Moore (D-Millbury) announced his re-appointment as Senate Chair of the Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security. Senate President Karen E. Spilka (D-Ashland) has also selected Moore for the top post on the Senate Committee on Bonding, Capital Expenditures and State Assets.

“Years ago, when I became an Environmental Police Officer, I took an oath to protect and serve,” said Senator Moore. “Today, I continue that commitment to public service as the Chair of these legislative committees. It is an honor to serve in these roles, and I appreciate the Senate President’s confidence in my efforts to enhance public policy here in our Commonwealth.”

The Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security possesses wide discretion to review a variety of legislation about topics such as civil defense, firearms, fire laws, the correctional system, and the prevention of terrorist attacks. The Senate Committee on Bonding, Capital Expenditures and State Assets considers legislation involving state lands and buildings, and bills relative to the issuance of state bonds.

Senator Moore was also appointed Vice Chair of the Joint Committee on Financial Services, and as a member of three other standing committees including Labor and Workforce Development; Post Audit and Oversight; and Senate Ways and Means.
