AUBURN, MA – Senator Michael O. Moore (D-Millbury) organized a semiannual firearm safety and education day on Sunday, May 15, 2016.  The event was made possible through the support of the Gun Owners’ Action League (GOAL), Smith & Wesson, and the Auburn Sportsman’s Club.

"I always look forward to this event which provides important firearm safety information to those who are interested," said Sen. Moore.  "I am amazed at the overwhelming interest from area residents who are eager to take part in this exciting opportunity.  For most, it is the first time they have encountered a firearm.  The skills they learn throughout the day help spread awareness about proper firearm safety."

The free full-day event enabled participants to receive hands-on instruction on proper handgun, rifle and shotgun use with the assistance of friendly and knowledgeable volunteers from the Auburn Sportsman’s Club.  Participants also benefited from use of firearm equipment, student texts, lunch and refreshments.  This year, there was a special demonstration on primitive firearms which use black powder.  The use of a firearm suppressor was also demonstrated which correlates to a bill under consideration by the Legislature entitled S.1271, An Act Relative to Suppressors.  Following the event, those who complete the safety and education training are eligible to apply for a Massachusetts License to Carry (LTC).

Senator Moore will be sponsoring a similar event on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at the Auburn Sportsman's Club.  To register, please contact Senator Moore's Chief of Staff, Shelly MacNeill, via telephone at (617) 722-1485 or by email at Shelly.MacNeill@masenate.gov.  Availability is limited to individuals 18 years or older, and reservations are on a first-come, first-served basis.
