BOSTON – Senator Michael O. Moore (D-Millbury) encourages trick-or-treaters to be careful when venturing for sweet treats this Halloween.

“It’s important for kids and parents to remain vigilant and careful when traveling door-to-door,” said Sen. Moore. “There are many simple precautions families can take to ensure that this Halloween is both safe and fun.”

Several safety tips include:

Trick-or-treating hours: Check with your local town or city officials about trick-or-treating times and other local guidelines.
Travel in groups: Children trick-or-treating without a parent or guardian should remain in groups and stay in neighborhoods that they are familiar with. Do not enter into the home of a stranger.
Beware of vehicles: Remember to use crosswalks, look both ways before crossing the street, and if you’re traveling by car please drive slowly and be on the lookout for pedestrians.
Be Visible: Bring a flashlight, glow sticks or reflective tape so that others can see you.
Choose safe costumes: Beware of flammable materials and oversized clothing that reduces visibility or can cause falls.
Know what you’re eating: Do not consume candy that is unwrapped or appears to be tampered with.
